Layered red-rock cliffs and sagebrush in Southern Utah at golden hour.

OUR STORY

Fragrance, shaped by place

Strata Fragrances was founded in Southern Utah by Anthony Schafer and Tyler Barene—two friends drawn together by a belief that scent can hold a landscape, a memory, and a point of view.

Anthony brings a chef’s and certified sommelier’s approach to aroma, balance, and evolution. Tyler brings a lifelong enthusiasm for fragrance and an instinct for the way scent becomes part of personal identity. Together, they are building modern fragrances with depth, clarity, and a strong sense of place.

The name Strata speaks to layers: sandstone formed over time, notes unfolding on skin, and the experiences that shape who we become. Southern Utah is our creative ground—its shifting light, mineral air, desert plants, warm stone, and dramatic quiet.

Our first expression, Serein No. 24, is currently in development. It is the beginning of a collection designed to feel atmospheric, distinctive, and deeply wearable.

Made with intention in Southern Utah.

Meet the Founders

Anthony Schafer

Before fragrance, Anthony built his career around another sensory language: food and wine. As a chef and certified sommelier, years of working with aroma, texture, balance, seasonality, and place developed the perspective he now brings to Strata. His approach to fragrance is rooted in the same idea that guided his culinary career—ingredients become memorable when they tell a story.

Co-Founder & CEO

Tyler Barene

Growing up with severe hyperhidrosis, Tyler became aware at an early age of the powerful relationship between scent and confidence. Fragrance became more than something he wore; it was a way to feel comfortable, expressive, and confident in his own skin. That personal connection eventually grew into a fascination with perfumery and a belief that scent has the power to change how we see ourselves. Through Strata, Tyler creates fragrances with a simple purpose: to help people feel confident, connected, and worthy of being exactly who they are.

Co-Founder & Perfumer

Fragrance should never define your worth. It should remind you of it.
